How Long Do You Cook Baby Back Ribs?

baby-back-ribsSlow cooking is recommended for baby back ribs if you want the meat to be easily removed from the bones. A propane grill is often utilized when cooking baby back ribs but you may also use the oven. It is important to remember that using high heat for a short period of time is not advisable for this kind of meat.

If you prefer to use a propane grill, the cooking time for baby back ribs is usually three and a half hours. For barbecue baby back ribs, the ingredients are: three to four pounds of the beef back ribs; one-half cup honey; one-half cup ketchup; one large onion that is chopped; one four-ounce can of diced green chilies; a teaspoon of salt; four cloves of minced garlic; a teaspoon of cayenne; a teaspoon of dry mustard; and a teaspoon of black pepper.

For healthier cooking, you may want to cut off the excess fat from the back ribs. Rub the cayenne, pepper and salt on the ribs. Prepare a drip pan for indirect grilling and start preheating the grill. After a temperature of less than 265 degrees Fahrenheit has been achieved, put the ribs on the grill over the drip pan and then close the lid. Cooking should last for three and a half hours at medium low heat or a temperature that is slightly under 265 degrees.

Make sure to stir the sauce until it is even and warm. When the ribs are almost cooked, start brushing the sauce on the meat until you are able to obtain a thick coating.

There is also a way to cook the baby back ribs in the oven and for this method, cooking time will take approximately three hours. The first step is to put dry rub on both sides of the rib and wrap them in aluminum foil. Make sure that the aluminum foils are of the heavy duty type. For the dry rub, you may buy a commercially available dry rub or you use your own combination of spices and brown sugar. Ensure that the ribs are completely sealed inside the aluminum foil by pulling the sides up and then folding them. Roll up each end also to make sure the flavors are sealed in.
